Linen Baby Part 1 - Bassinets

Friday, July 30, 2010

Four of my dear friends, including my sister Keli, are having babies this summer. I am dedicating a "Linen Baby" series to them featuring some of my favorite linen pieces for nurseries. As a new mom, one of my most-used items from the beginning was our bassinet. I would just watch our baby girls sleep for hours from my bed next to them. Their peacefulness (a-hem, sometimes) was beautiful. There is nothing like a newborn to make your heart swell.

These bassinets are designed with linen. I think they are beautiful if your budget will allow it.

Eileen Fisher: Not Just For Your Mom Anymore

Today's post is by Carly Petrone. Carly is a freelance writer in New York City who is also a make-up artist, classical pianist, alumna of the famed improv training group, Groundlings, and my sweet cousin. Enjoy!

If you haven’t stepped into an Eileen Fisher store lately, or if you’re like me and had never been inside one of her stores, don’t waste another second! Whether you’re looking for the perfect little black dress or a casual summer outfit her clothes are now cuter than ever. Although it is still on the pricey side (over $200 for a simple black dress) it’s well worth it. I just bought the perfect casual, knee-length dress for summer that can easily be dressed up or down. My mom was shopping with me and took the same dress in another size. The other plus about her clothes is they run big. I was a size small for the first time since I was ten!

Living in New York in a record hot summer has led me to wear dresses on a daily basis. I wish I had shopped here sooner…I would have stocked up! Her materials aren’t heavy and very breathable. They’re also not bulky and don’t wrinkle easily, making them the first thing I grab when packing and/or throwing something into my suitcase. My good friend introduced me to their dresses after she bought this below in two different colors (again on sale!):

Handkerchief Linen Racer-Back Cami Dress

Was $238.00

Select colors from $119.00

Here are some other great looks that are available both at her store and online:

Washable Stretch Crepe Shaped Knee-Length Dress

“Running in Heels” Look:

Slouchy V-Neck Top in Stretch Silk Charmeuse

$178.00

Linen Jersey Racer-Back Tunic

Linen Jersey Racer-Back Tunic

Organic Linen Cropped Pant with Cuff

Was $158.00

Select colors from $79.00

Handkerchief Linen A-Line Skirt with Ruffles

Happy shopping!

Xoxo,

Carly

Back to the Beach

Friday, July 23, 2010

Whew! What a week. We have moved back to the beach from Portland and it is good to be in our little home. I loved the Northwest, but there is nothing like familiar surroundings. The salt air, cleaning my girls' sandy toes and walking around our little beach town seeing friends makes my heart happy. I'm settling in to enjoy the rest of a beautiful beach-filled, sun-drenched summer. Lots of love to you and wherever you are spending these lovely, long days and warm nights.

The Manhattan Beach pier.

The newly painted lifeguard stands.

Oh yes, and don't forget to check out the awesome linen beach towels below by Deck Towel. They are light, absorbent and simply gorgeous.

Farewell Lake Oswego

Tuesday, July 13, 2010

I always get a little sentimental when we are about to leave a location that we have lived in for a few months. This week marks the end of our stay in Lake Oswego, Oregon. One thing that I love about touring the country is my endless search for the perfect cottage. My husband knows me so well that when he saw the listing on Craigslist for a rental cottage in the trendy area called First Edition of Lake Oswego, he snapped it right up. The neighborhood did not disappoint with its treasure trove of cottage style architecture. I thought I would share a few of my most frequently passed homes that kept me happy during four months of rain. My three-year-old daughter now says, "Mommy, I just love that house" when we pass some of them. Nothing like training them young, right? :)

So here is my Ode to First Addition. I hope you like them as much as I do. No, they are not made out of linen but don't you think linen pieces would be perfect inside of them?

See you in California,
Heather

EmersonMade

Sunday, July 11, 2010

I was reading A Cup of Jo and learned about an amazing line of fabric blooms by a company named EmersonMade. Everything is hand dyed and hand sewn and many of the items are in linen. The owners, Emerson and her husband Ryan, are absolutely charming in their photos. I love this website. There are flowers, clutches, clothes, sashes, wedding items and home accessories that are original, darling and fun!

Here are some of my favorites...

French Garden House

Friday, July 9, 2010

I was reading the magazine Flea Market Style, and saw a lovely little ad for a website called French Garden House. What a find! This California based company specializes in romantic French decor. The online boutique carries an array of items from lighting to kitchen decor but what I loved was the linen upholstered furniture! To see all the boutique items click here. I have featured some amazing French and Swedish styled pieces featuring caning (my favorite) and lots of linen. Happy weekend! Heather

Lakeside Home & Gift

Friday, July 2, 2010

I had the pleasure of visiting Lakeside Home & Gift last week in Lake Oswego, Oregon. The shop's proprietors are mother-daughter team Lynne Wintermute and Caitlin Massey. They offer everything from interior design services to last minute hostess gifts. As Lynne says, their style is a bit like Anthropology mixed in with many natural textiles. Of course, that is what I loved about the floor, there was so much linen on display! From fabulous lamps by Gallery Designs, to beautiful pillows by Lacefield Designs, and tablecloths from Libeco, I must admit, I was in heaven. Here are my absolute favorites. If you are interested in anything specific, please call Lynne. As the website reads, "Stop by early for a cup of freshly brewed coffee, or in the afternoon for a chilled glass of wine. There's always something new at Lakeside." How can you beat that?

When you first walk into the shop you see this beautiful display. As Lynne shared, she loves to merchandise and it shows. I love the Trina Turk pillows combined with the blue, linen sofa.

The sofa a little closer...

Here's a closer look at the side table and the wonderful linen, handtowels.

Couldn't you just move in to this living room? I love the Chocolate Brown sofa in linen.

...and the Chocolate Brown chair.

If you prefer a warmer palette, here is a room design for you.

This chair covered in linen by Four Hands is a bestseller for Lynne. Check out the base of the chair, it is fantastic.

I love the earthy colors in this display.

There are many of these wonderful lamps in all different styles from Gallery Designs. I am now a huge fan!

Look at this precious bird pillow in linen with beads.

Some more pillows to love...

Gift items...

And although it is not linen, I think this peacock jute bag would make any shopping trip look successful.

If you are in the Portland area, you have to check out this shop! Or, just call and chat with Lynne and she can help you by phone.

Have a great week!
